Who Is Eligible?

• Residency: You must be a legal resident in Portugal (NIF holder). Both Portuguese nationals and expats/foreign residents are eligible.
• Property ownership: You must own the property where the work is being carried out. Tenants are generally not eligible (though landlords can apply).
• Property type: Residential properties only (not commercial). Applies to apartments, houses and villas.
• Energy certificate: You will typically need a valid Certificado Energético for your property. If you don’t have one, we can help arrange it (cost: approximately €150–€300).

How to Apply

The application process involves several steps, all conducted online through the Fundo Ambiental portal (in Portuguese). Here’s how it works:

1. Pre-registration: Create an account on the Fundo Ambiental platform using your NIF (Portuguese tax number).
2. Submit application: Upload the required documents, including a quote from a certified installer, proof of property ownership, and your energy certificate.
3. Wait for approval: Applications are assessed on a first-come, first-served basis. Processing typically takes 2–8 weeks.
4. Complete installation: Once approved, you have a set period (typically 6–12 months) to complete the work.
5. Submit proof of completion: Upload the installer’s invoice and certificate of completion.
6. Receive subsidy: The grant is paid directly to your Portuguese bank account, typically within 30–60 days of approval.

ADENE and Energy Certificates

ADENE (Agência para a Energia) is Portugal’s energy agency. For heat pump grants, ADENE is relevant in two ways:

• Energy Performance Certificates (Certificado Energético): ADENE manages the SCE (Sistema de Certificação Energética), Portugal’s energy certification system. Your property’s energy certificate is a key document for grant applications and is also required when selling or renting.
• Efficiency standards: ADENE sets the efficiency criteria that heat pump equipment must meet to qualify for grants. All major brands available in Portugal (Daikin, Mitsubishi, Bosch, Vaillant, etc.) meet these requirements.

IVA (VAT) Reduction
